Hello all!
I have been having trouble with my what you hear option. I'm trying to record myself singing with music but I can't get it to function. In order to get the what you hear to work, I have to unplug my microphone. Why is that? Even if the recording mic isn't checked, it won't work. I have to check the mic for the playback settings however.
Please help.
Sincerely,
Lady Mercury

Good evening Not sure i completely understand the problem but I will offer the following. If you want to record what you hear meaning anythinkg going through your card you should go to properties in your volume control by pressing the alt key and then using the up arrow and then pressing enter on properties. tab to adjust volume for which is a radio button and arrow down to record. if you tab one time you should see a list box with a list of all of the items you can change and be sure what you hear is checked and then tab to okay and press enter. you are now in a dialog where you can tab to what you hear and check it. I don't remember if the slider is first or the check box is first. Once this is done you can close the volume control. Now, should you desire to hear the mike through the speakers(please be careful of feedback) then go back to the properties of the volume control tab to the adjust volume for radio button and down or up arrow to playback, tab to the list of items and be sure the mike is checked and tab to okay. then you are back in the dialog box showing playback controls. Be sure the mike is not muted by unchecking the mute microphone box and also adjust the slider appropriately. Remember, this is for playback and should not effect the recording level. Even if you muted it it would still record but you won't hear anythinkg through your speakers. Hope this helps.

I've tried all of this. I don't know what else to do. Thanks for your help. It's strange. I have to completely unplug my mic. I unchecked the box for the what you hear option and unmuted the mic and I don't get any sound if it's pluged in. s

if you are using your speech soft synth, such as Elaquence, through your computer's internal sound card, you should really get an external audio interface for recording purposes etc. Or, if you are using a desktop and you have a spare PCI card slot, you can get another standard stereo sound card and that would also work fine. However, with an external USB or firewire interface, you'll get a mic pre amp which is actually an xlr pre, and many other things. If you want some recommendations, private message or e mail me and we'll figure out a suitable interface that's within your budget.
